February 19, 2003 All the latest Etta James has a new CD coming out on April 1, containing some of Kevin's songs. In March, Kevin will start production work on Shane Henry's debut CD on the Shanachie label. Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon from Double Trouble will be backing musicians. Three of Kevin's songs were used on the Young and the Restless a few weeks ago. He now refers to the show as "my story" and watches every day. The Prophets have been recording new versions of Coulda Shoulda Woulda, No Riders, Liquid Confidence, Permanently Temporary and Land of Cain for the upcoming Dutch release on Corazong Records. Many more shows coming in the next few months, so watch the site. January 6, 2003 Album work begins The band has been recording new versions of No Riders, Coulda Shoulda Woulda and Liquid Confidence and remixing Land of Caine and Permanently Temporary for their first Corazong release this spring. November 21, 2002 The okemah prophets are in the process of negotiating a record deal with a label called corazong records out of the netherlands. They just put out a sampler of different bands with "Land of Cain" off of the Love Songs/Murder Ballads CD. Next will be a compilation of some songs off the old OP CDs and a couple of new things. Then a four record deal of all new material to come. Distribution in europe and canada are set and US distribution is in the works. It will probably involve some european touring for the band in some form or another. David Z is now mixing the new Etta James album at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, including four songs Kevin wrote: "The Wayward Saints of Memphis," "The Blues is my Business," On the Seventh Day" and "Trust Yourself." And last but not least, Amanda Martin, a young bluegrass/country singer Kevin has been writing with in Nashville just got signed to Curb Records. She is planning on cutting some of the songs on her debut album. April 24, 2002 Summer's Coming Tons of summer shows are scheduled. Check the Gigs page for info. August 21, 2001 In addition to a busy summer schedule of festivals and other gigs, Kevin Bowe and some of the other Okemah Prophets have been involved in some extracurricular activities. Last summer, Kevin and Andy Dee contributed guitar and lap steel tracks to almost every song on a new album recorded here in Mpls. by Scotland's Proclaimers (I Would Walk 500 Miles). That album, "Persevere" has now been released and the band is opening for Barenaked Ladies on their current tour. Jazz/blues guitar legend Robben Ford just came to town to write a few songs with Kevin; they are now working on demos of those songs, some of which will appear on Robben's next album. Kevin has also been busy in Nashville writing with producer David Z and his next project; a young bluegrass-tinged country singer named Amanda Martin who was just signed to RCA on the strength of a song called "Hit By A Train" that the 3 wrote together a few weeks back. Kevin and Amanda just showcased their new songs at RCA's Nashville offices in front of several executives and publishers. Last month, Kevin wrote a song with another RCA act, "The Warren Brothers" who are currently in the top 10 at country radio. In other writing news, Johnny Winter just cut a version of Kevin's "The Blues Is My Business" for his upcoming album on Point Blank. Three Dog Night's version of "Sault Ste. Marie" (off the Prophets "Restoration" CD) will be included on their upcoming album and live concert DVD; the song was recorded with the London Philharmonic. Kevin also wrote some new songs with Kirk McLeod, the leader of "Seven Nations", a very popular Celtic rock band from Florida. Recently, the band performed on the headline stage at the Woody Guthrie Free Folk Festival in Okemah Oklahoma. The band was invited to play in their adopted home town last year, where they performed their own songs as well as sitting in with Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger on some of Woody's songs. Despite the band's perpetually low profile in (and disgust for) the Minneapolis music scene, they have a lot going on which can be monitored right here on www.kevinbowe.com. July 31, 2001 August 17 is the day The Prophets are headlining at the Cabooze on Aug. 17. Mark your calendars now and often so you don't forget to attend. This is a big ol' Cities 97-sponosored show promoting the As Minnesota As It Gets CD, which includes "Sault Ste. Marie." Tell your friends, wake the neighbors and get your asses to the Cabooze on Aug. 17. May 30, 2001 We've Got Shirts As promised, band t-shirts are now available. May 28, 2001 Updates Galore The site is undergoing complete updating this week, so make sure to look around at the new stuff. The new Proclaimers CD is available at music stores everywhere. More proof that Kevin is huge in Eastern Block countries: Yukoslav blues artist Ana Popovich has just cut a version of Kevin's song "Love Fever." It will be released on Ruf Records out of Germany. Jim Gaines (Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Miller) produced. March 18, 2001 Was That...? Yes. That was Shannon Curfman's I Don't Make Promises (cowritten by this Web site's namesake) playing in the background on tonight's episode of The Sopranos. Let's hope nobody owes Tony and his "family" a return favor. Make sure to check out the new Kevin Bowe message board here. Drop in, say a few words about Kevin and the band, chat with other fans and take a look at a few photos of the guys on stage. Also take a look at the Rolling Stone article on this year's Sandcastle Songwriting Week, which Kevin was a part of. It can be viewed here. May is shaping up to be a big month. Last summer, Andy Dee (lap steel extraordinaire) and Kevin Bowe had the pleasure of recording an album with the Proclaimers here in Minneapolis with producer Chris Kimsey (Rolling Stones, Soul Asylum). Andy and Kevin played various instruments on the whole album, which was a great experience; the studio band included Pete Thomas on drums (Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow), Hutch Hutchinson on bass (Bonnie Raitt) and Chuck Leavell on keyboards (Allman Bros., Clapton, Stones). Below is an article on the record, which is scheduled for U.S. release on May 22." February 26, 2001 Around the World The past two weeks have been a whirlwind for Kevin Bowe and the Okemah Prophets. In that short span, they have been around the whole world (musically) from the sublime to the ridiculoushard to say which is which. The journey began with Kevin slipping in a quick trip to Miami, where he wrote songs and recorded with Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Mark Hudson (new Aerosmith album producer), Michael Peterson (platinum country artist), Gary Burr (top Nashville songwriter), Shannon Lawson (new MCA signing) and others. Desmond Child arranged and hosted this convergence of talent at his home and studio complex. Kevin recently signed with Childs publishing company, Deston Songs. Leaving the warmth of Florida, Bowe headed back to frigid Minneapolis, where the Okemah Prophets opened for Czech bluegrass supergroup Druha Trava at the sold-out Polish Social Hall in St. Paul. The bands put on a great for a very appreciative and VERY Czech audience. Finally, last weekend, Kevin headed to Nashville where he performed a set at the famous Bluebird Cafe, the worlds foremost venue for singer/songwriters. The rest of the trip was spent writing songs with The Warren Brothers (RCA recording artists), David Z (multiplatinum producer working with new artist named Amanda), Duane Jarvis (former sideman with Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yaokaum and John Prine) and Marvin Etzioni (Lone Justice, Toad the Wet Sprocket). Whats next for the Kevin Bowe and the Okemah Prophets? This Friday, March 2, the band invades the Bean Coffee and Wine Bar in Excelsior (318 Water St.) to perform a mixed-band gig with Mick Sterling and company, proving that there truly is no rest for the wicked. January 21, 2001 Much News "Sault Ste. Marie" will be featured as the track of the day at Garageband.com on Jan. 26. Make sure to check it out right here on Friday. Kevin has been writing with Mary Cutrufello and working on demos for her next album. He also has contributed lyrics for a major label Buddy Holly tribute album being put together in Los Angeles. The producer wanted some extra verses for the song "Maybe Baby," so Kevin put on his black horn-rim glasses and wrote a couple. As if that isn't enough, Kevin wrote some stuff for Robben Ford's upcoming solo album on Verve. January 10, 2001 Welcome Home This site has a new home at www.kevin-bowe.com. Update your bookmarks.
